Understanding Cap-Cut

Image
I figured since I have a basic understanding of Cap-Cut I'd explain it. Here is where we manipulated the footage in changing the speed, adding animations, cropping footage, and lowering or heightening the volume in certain scenes for certain sounds. Here you can add text on top of the media playing. You can alter the font, size, alignment, and add animations to help the text fit the timing of your film. We used this for our credits . This is were you add specific audio tracks such as background tracks, or voice overs. You can also determine the volume here as well. This is where you see all your hard work and determine if something needs to be added or manipulated to make for film look perfect. This is the only thing me and group could vaguely understand when starting Cap-Cut. This is where you change the order of your scenes to show in the order of your likening. Overview After learning how to work Cap-Cut this is how everything looks

This is not for the weak

Editing day #1 No one said it would be this hard Learning how to edit is something that I am not used to but I didn't expect it to seem impossible the only experience I have with editing would come from me editing a picture on my phone but trying to edit footage to be synchronized and to look professional is very hard especially when you're using a program you're not familiar with there was a lot of trial and error and because no one knew what they were doing we didn't get far in editing our film other than placing the scenes in order and kidding maybe one or two transitions in two attempt and synchronize the first two scenes but even then those were very choppy and did not look very well.  Realizing we had no idea what we were doing we then decided to watch a couple of YouTube videos and attempted to do the tips and tricks we saw just to have a basic understanding of how to do certain things After getting an understanding of the basics we then moved on to more complex ...

Update on production schedule and things we learned

Just a slight update in my team and I's production schedule. We've decided to shift most of are shooting time during study hall and lunch to not rely on our teacher coming on Saturday's. This also allows us on the Saturdays to take our time editing and to have one-on-one time with our teacher to ask questions. New things learned Lenses matter !! They make certain shots 10 times better just by being able to focus on certain thing more. It is crucial to wear the same clothes while recording.  Your scenes do not have to be recorded perfectly. We are not professionals so are film will have flaws it just depends on how we fix them and if we can't in the moment there is no problem researching or asking for help.

Finalizing Scenes

Image
TODAY WE SHOOT OUR LAST SCENE !!! We finished up our film with Melody when she came back and we got a lot completed today we had to record in Mrs. Barnett's room, a science teacher at our school just because the location of her classroom was close, and she had a small class at the time. We were worried that our voices wouldn't be heard due to the noise of the class even though the volume of the class was low. Hopefully, this is not the case because we don't know how authentic a voice-over will look on camera if we must do so. When recording we had to do multiple takes just to make sure everything was done right, and our vision was captured In the way we envisioned. From just wanting our footage to look good to long moments of laughter it's safe to say we took our time with shooting our last scene. We finished recording and still had time to spare so even with only a little time left we put our different scenes into Cap Cut, an app that edits video, to help us get star...

Filming update

Image
Now that me and my team are shooting we have developed new ideas for are movie.  Due to our team member Melody being out while we are recording we have had to find someone else to play her character. At this moment we have not found someone but each remaining member has an idea of someone we just have to ask and work out a schedule that accommodates everyone. For our first scene we actually have switched settings. we have decided to change from inside our school, to outside. This allowed for more space and room, but also allowed our film to have a different pace and look. Due to us learning how to work the camera lens we have decided to play around with the focus of the camera angles. We show this in our third scene. At first me and my team were looking on YouTube for certain sounds to develop the troupes of our genre but are teacher aquept us with a free website that has royalty and copy free music that we can us in our film.

Filming day 1

My group started to record our two-minute film and unfortunately, I was not there but I did come back to 2 different scenes that were shot and both were good We decided to redo one scene and film a whole new seem complete which went very well. We did have to have someone else hold the camera while I stood on the other side and flicked the lights to show the mental distress of our character and fortunately, we were able to achieve the look that we wanted while also attempting a new transition. We did not expect the microphone on the camera to pick up as much sound in the classroom as it did. Fortunately, the scene does not have any dialogue so it was not a setback for us.

Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR

Image
Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR   Being that it was a first for my team and I to use a professional camera, we had no idea what we were doing, but with research and the help of our teacher we were able to understand the basics Why the Canon Camera? My group and I decided that even though we are all comfortable with using our phone cameras we wanted the best quality possible. We also wanted the transferring of files to be quick and easy, especially since my computer is low and space being that it is the main device used. Beyond what the team wanted recording our movie with a phone would be close to impossible especially when trying to record from afar. The phone if not close will not pick up on the target audio. Meaning it would be a waste to even attempt recording on our phone unless we were shooting establishing or scenery shots both that the Cannon Rebel did well. However, for a simple answer, the Cannon was the only camera we had.   Key Camera Features Ø    Approx. 24.7...

Stuart Hall Theories

Image
In class, we studied two of Stuart Hall's movie theories. The two we studied are reception and representation theory. Stuart Hall's Reception Theory This theory states that media is encoded with ideas by producers hoping that the message can be decoded by viewers. Audiences may comprehend the media different due to age, sex, childhood, and location. Producers hope that viewers have a preferred reading. This is when the audience decodes and understands the message the producer had in mind. Sometimes views have oppositional readings. This is when viewers obtain a different interpretation than what the author intended. An example of this is the Netflix movie "Cuties"  "Cuties (French: Mignonnes) is a 2020 French coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Maïmouna Doucouré in her feature directorial debut. The film's ensemble cast is led by Fathia Youssouf who portrays Amy, a Senegalese-French girl with a traditional Muslim upbringing who is caught between...

Color Temperature

Image
Kelvins Color Temperature chart  In class, we learned about color temperature and white balance. Color Temperature - A way to describe the color of a light source . White Balance  - G lobal adjustment of the intensities of the colors. Planks Law Max Plank came up with a formula that explains the "electromagnetic radiation emitted by a theoretical black body, at a given temperature." The different temperatures are measured in Kelvins which is the "base unit of thermodynamic temperature." With this knowledge, my group and I plan on playing with the color temperature for our first scene to help the viewer understand it is a flashback. We would like to achieve a look similar to this.
